Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health
MaCAHS

GP down south - MaCAHS

Developing strategies and providing resources to improve the health and wellbeing of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) community is a priority for GP down south.
There are Aboriginal Health workers located in both Collie and Manjimup to help achieve this goal. Supporting the local ATSI communities to access mainstream health services in a culturally sensitive way is beneficial to general practice and the ATSI community, the service can provide a useful support network to Indigenous clients and the health providers.

Aborginal Health Workers (AHWs) provide home visits and organise workshops to educate our people on the health issues that affect the communities. Transport to local Practices is provided by MaCAHS health workers. The team also liaise with other providers such as Homes West, Department of Child Protection (DCP), Centrelink. GP and dental appointments are organised by the AHWs for clients. Fuel vouchers are given to clients to help them get to specialist appointments in Bunbury following strict eligibility criteria
