2021 Mental Health Week Event Round-up

22/10/2021

This years’ theme was “Mental Health starts with our Children” We aimed to promote the importance of relationships and community.
Staff from across programs and services got out and about in the community to celebrate and promote Mental Health Week and its message.  From Bunbury to Busselton, across the whole week, we wholeheartedly embraced this year’s theme and took the message out to the community.

We kicked off Mental Health Week with a talk by dynamic presenter Adam Pryztula of Armed for Life.  He spoke about “Building Resilience in our Children”.  He spoke about the importance of establishing this in young children which then provides the scaffolding to buffer them against life’s inevitable bumps.  His straight talking style was refreshing and was appreciated by parents and professionals who attended.

Later in the week, our team worked together with headspace Busselton and Busselton/Dunsborough Alliance Against Depression on our annual yoga and Jetty walks event.   We cast an open invitation to the public to join a free yoga session on the Busselton foreshore and for a fourth year the City of Busselton supported us by covering the cost of the Busselton Jetty entrance fee where we hosted a jetty walk for mental health. We had over 35 participants join us for this year’s event and it was a beautiful sunny day.

To close off Mental Health Week in WA, we participated in the inaugural Raising the Vibe Youth Festival, which took us back to the Busselton foreshore but this time we offered djembe drumming circle sessions under a bright blue sky with cool tunes in the background.

Together we can improve our mental health and that of those around us.  Like our Facebook page to keep up to date with upcoming events and activities by GP down south.

We thank the WA Association for Mental Health, Lotterywest and the City of Busselton for providing support to enable us to bring these Mental Health Week (WA) activities to you.
