Health Consumer Excellence Awards 2019

13/5/2019

The Health Consumers Council is an independent, community-based organisation that represents the consumer voice in health policy, planning, research and service delivery in WA. Each year for the past four years, the Health Consumers Council has used awarded ‘every day heroes’ in health care both as individual service providers, individual community members and teams who provide compassionate and indiscriminate care.
The Health Consumer Excellence Award nominations opened in March 2019, and as a result, NWM and PYMS were nominated in the Health Organisations Award category and DSAH and NWM were nominated in the Aboriginal Health Organisations Award.
Out of the 10 nominees, NWM and PYMS were selected as one of four finalists in the Health Organisations category. DSAH were acknowledged during the awards ceremony for the excellent work that they do in the South West.
Last night, Lisa Buswell (representing PYMS) and Natalie Newman (representing NWM) and myself (representing GPds) all attended the awards ceremony in Crawley.
It is with great pride that I let you all know that NWM achieved the Health Organisation Excellence award. Natalie collected a trophy and the certificate and stood up in front of a large group of people to thank the Health Consumers Council and acknowledged the team at NWM and GP down south for their role in working effectively with the Aboriginal community to improve services and ultimately health outcomes.
It is with equal pride, that I also let you all know that PYMS came in second in the Health Organization Excellence category, receiving a ‘highly commended’ award. Lisa accepted the award on behalf of PYMS and GP down south. While Lisa didn’t have to make a speech, she did a great job in accepting the award and promoting PYMS and our services.
