Wednesday the 11th of December saw the Peel Health Hub celebrate its first birthday. Once again, the weather gods were on our side and over 400 people took advantage of the free activities. The family focused fun day saw activities such as the bucking bull and the petting zoo popular amongst the kids, as was the opportunity to “shoot hoops” with representatives from Mandurah Magic. The free sausage sizzle and ice creams were a hit.
Each co-locator set up a booth with promotional material and resources to allow our visitors to take home information that was relevant to them and their needs. The booths also provided opportunity for people to meet members of the services and ask them any questions.
Over the last 12 months, the co-locators have been working tirelessly to make the unique and collaborative model of care a reality. While it hasn’t been without its challenges, the co-locators are committed to reducing those barriers which are preventing young people from accessing local health services, especially those whose lives are affected by mental health, drugs or alcohol.
Services within the Peel Health Hub include GP down south, Peel Youth Medical Service, Youth Focus, Palmerston Association, Allambee Counselling, Jobs South West, Richmond Wellbeing, Child and Adolescent Health Services and headspace.
GP down south is an exemplary not-for-profit community organisation. We have been providing health and wellbeing services in the Peel regions and the South West of WA since 1994.
