It was a changing of the guard for Board members recently. The GP down south board met in Bunbury last week and farewelled departing board member Dr Russell Wallis. Russell has been both a Board member and a member of staff and is a keen supporter of GP down south.
He commenced with us in 2019 as a GP Lead working with the Integrated Chronic Disease team within a collaborative ‘Hospital to Home” project, helping people navigate their way back to health in the space between hospital admission and recovering at home. It linked patients with pharmacists, allied health and their GPs to ensure effective communications across care. He helped bring technology into focus well before COVID, running a series of Zoom workshops for GPs and allied health professionals in the South West.
Taking over from Dr Wallis is Dr Ann Choong, to whom we extend a warm welcome. Ann brings a wealth of knowledge and unique skill set with both a medical and legal background applied across a diverse range of sectors. David Barton was re-elected as Board Chair for 2023, and the Deputy Chair is Prof Garry Allison. Along with existing board members Anne Donaldson GAICD, Tricia Scaffidi and Rupert Backhouse we look forward to an energising and transformative year ahead.
GP down south is an exemplary not-for-profit community organisation. We have been providing health and wellbeing services in the Peel regions and the South West of WA since 1994.
